Went to the Redpath Museum for the first time the other day. Great place to draw, even if a little crowded with kids! Tried a few animals, a random vase, and spent quite some time in the shells section. Trying to draw structurally/analytically, keeping the 3-dimensions of the objects in mind. Definitely made for better, more credible drawings – for this type of subject matter, anyway.
My final project for a class. I drew from photo reference (here), took a 4 week break, then drew this only from my previous drawings (without looking back to the photo). Naturally, it has many things in common with the original, and yet is entirely mine. Many things have been removed and the garden is totally invented. I made two finished versions: the B&W one is done with the Pentel Pocket Brush and water wash; the colour one with a Sakura 0.1mm pen and watercolour.
